What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is way of helping your body work better by making small improvements to the joints of your body which in turn make larger improvements to the muscles, ligaments, nerves and ultimately the entire body.
What is Pain?
Generally, pain after an injury is the body’s way of communicating to us about the injury. The pain intensity, frequency and quality give clues about the injury. Also, if we did not feel pain, we could move in a way that makes the injury worse leading to persistent pain. Listening to your body’s pain can be an important part of the healing process.
Chiropractic Adjustments are performed to align the vertebrae of the spine to allow for proper spinal, nerve and soft tissue function. The adjustments are performed at the appropriate time, and when the patient is ready.
Activator adjustments are performed with a hand held instrument that uses a gentle pulse to move the spine or other joint. This can be helpful with the area needing to be adjusted is very painful and cannot tolerate movement.
Light therapy is a new and exciting way to assist the body during the healing process.
Interferential therapy can be provided at home to comfortably decrease inflammation, pain, muscle spasms, atrophy and/ or swelling and promote soft tissue healing and circulation.
This type of heat works deeper into the body then dry heat. It helps relax the spine/ soft tissues, soften scar tissue, reduce muscle spasms and pain.
Microcurrent Therapy can also be a treatment option at home which is used to improve the healing rate of the injured area. It delivers a very small current that is usually not felt to the cells of the area being treated, and uses the same current of our cells.
Exercises can be performed as part of your treatment. Depending on the area of injury, I will recommend a personalized treatment routine to help with the healing process.
Stretching can also be performed as part of your treatment. Different stretches can be recommended for your specific injuries at the appropriate time within your healing phase.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy is performed to help reduce muscle spasms, align scar tissue formation and improve spinal posture. This is done by applying gentle pressure over trigger points. Trigger points are tender spots that can refer pain to another part of the body.
Support tape can be used for specific injures of a joint or muscle. By applying a stretchy tape the injured area, the injury can be supported during the healing process, while allowing for full range of motion.
Nutrition is easily overlooked. Advice on which foods to stay away from and which foods to eat more of depending on your injuries will be given. If you are interested in whole food nutrition, more recommendations can be made. I am certified in nutrition.
Flexion / Distraction Therapy
This therapy gently stretches the spine in a way that helps relieve stress on the intervetebral discs and facet joints. It is very common for a patient to say that they love this table.
Using a hand held massager during your treatments feels great and also improves muscle recovery healing times.
A cold pack maybe given to you at the time of your first visit if you do not have one. Also, detailed instructions on how to use a cold pack at home will be critical for success.
